We celebrate birthdays, jubilee days, feast days and such other days. Urwa church celebrated PARISH DAY. This celebration is something unique. It is day not of one or a few individuals but of the entire parish. On May 1, 2016 all parishioners gathered in the Church to thank God for His blessings upon this parish with the  Mass at 4.30pm presided over by our Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza and concelebrated by our former Parish Priests, Asst Parish Priests, Resident Priests, Priests  from Urwa Church.

The congregation thanked God for this Church, remembering everyone who helped to build this church 25 years ago. The parish remembered late Fr John D’Souza, who as parish priest then, took up the responsibility in constructing this church.  It was a time for parishioners to feel great about this church which has kept them together in faith for 25 years and has been a power house of divine blessings for them. Representing the whole parish, the Liturgy was conducted by the Gurkars, Vice-presidents and secretaries of the present and those at the time of inauguration. The parishioners gathered in the Church hall to be part of the Parish day celebrations.

The parishioners gathered in the Church hall to be part of the Parish day celebration, soon after the mass.   The Bishop presided over the function in the hall.
Fr John D’Souza, who was the parish priest 25 years ago, under whose leadership the church building was built, was remembered at this moment  and a minute of silence was observed at this time and lamps were lit  before his photo as a mark of respect to him. Fr Paul Sequeira, the then Asst. Parish priest,  Mr Richard D’Costa,  the then Vice president,  were felicitated thanking them and the parishioners and well wishers of that time who sacrificed their money, time and energy for this church.  (Sr Nirmala Francis, the then  secretary, who was to share the felicitation could not be present at this moment since she had leave for work urgently).

Then the Bishop was honoured for his double jubilee of 20 years of his bishopric and 75 years of his life. Fr Victor D’Mello, the former parish priest, was honoured for his silver jubilee of priesthood.

Fr Stany Pereira was honoured for his 20 years of his priesthood.

The Cultural show was comprised of various forms of dances, viz., bharatanatyam, lavani, punjabi, kashmiri and dandia. These were performed by our children and youngsters and there was a solo dance performance.  ‘Aytarachem mis’ , a drama enacted by our parish artists  carried a good message. It filled the hall with laughter with its timely comedy punches.  The choir rendered a melody eulogising the jubilee of the church edifice.
The entire event was a success because of hard work and sacrifices of people of goodwill.

The people then participated in the ‘agape’ the meal of love and relished it tastefully.
